Herts Kenpo Jujitsu
The club was originally founded in 1993 by Sensei P West. I took charge of the club in September 2000 where we have continued to run a friendly, hard-working teaching system designed to keep our students fit, content and true to our Jujitsu values.
History Of Jujitsu
Jujitsu is one of the oldest documented japanese martial arts, loosely
translated "the gentle art", which was adopted by the samurai for unarmed use
against armed opponents.
Jujitsu emphasises the use of minimum force for maximum effect, using
the attackers own attack against them in a varety of turning, grappling,
throwing and striking techniques. What made Jujitsu such as potent martial art
is its use in both on and off the battlefield.
In ancient times, Jujitsu students would be trained so that advantages such as
height and strength were turned on the attacker, giving students the technique
and confidence to deal with any threat.
Whilst the origins of Jujitsu are unknown, documented teachings have been
found as far back as the 18th century, during japanese civil war, however,
jujitsu in its own right only came into general use during the Edo period as a
grappling art.
Over the next century, Jujitsu adopted kicking and striking techniquest from a
fist form known as Kenpo.
Jujitsu first came to Britain in the mid 20th century, where it has seen
steady increase in popularity ever since.
